Hunger

Indroduction

Food is something that many of us take for granted. We don't think of what it's like to have to be on the lookout for food, but in reality, many people do. The first step towards understanding this problem is to define what hunger is.

What is Hunger?

We'll categorize hunger into two types: food insecurity and complete food insecurity. The first one, food insecurity, is when a person is not guaranteed to have food every single day. This means they are working, make some money, but do not make enough money to fully support themselves and the people they are responsible for. The second type, complete food insecurity, is where someone makes no money, and thus has no way to buy the food they need. This is often paired with homelessness. Both of these are a type of poverty, which affects people globally.

Why We Hunger

So, why are so many people hungry? The problem comes down to what is called the just distribution of goods. In this ideology, everyone is supposed to be allotted what they need in order to survive. This is inline with the idea that God made the world for all, so no-should hoard property to themselves. But the problem is, there is no enforcement of this idea. Therefore, people are not allowed to get what they need to survive, importantly, food.

What We Can Do?

The simple answer to what we can do is to help ensure that the people who cannot get food themselves are allowed to get some. This means working at food pantries, donating to food organizations, et cetera. However, while this is certainly good to do, there is a more complex solution. Working with the government, locally and nationally, can ensure that policies are put into place that are focused on helping people out. But why do we have this problem?
